What technologies have you used in the classroom?

What technologies have you used in the classroom?

  • What kind of response did you get from students?
  • Did you find it easy to use?
  • What did you learn?
  • What would you do differently next time?

    * wikispace:
    - as a resource for students. The students found having access to resources from home was a great benefit.
    - as a discussion tool. The students acted as Helpdesk staff and I was the client with the PC problem. They had to ask relevant questions in order to solve my problem.
    — this kept me busy keeping up with all their questions but I used the ‘monitoring’ facility on wikispaces so that i recieved an email each time a discussion was updated.
    — I think I would do this differently as it really needed to be in real time to make it more effective.
    -as way for students to post their research. Students also had to post a discussion on someone’s elses work.
    — students enjoyed seeing their work online and seeing what other said about their work.

    * blog:
    - used a blog as way to inform students of the weeks tasks and I encouraged them to post questions on what we covered in class.

    * Connect
    - I used this as simulated distance training exercise. One student (the trainer) used a laptop in another room and ‘trained’ the class. The exercise was to train them on how to make a flight booking to a chosen city for a client.
    –I had problems with lag…the laptop used wireless and so the class experienced a delay between what they heard and what they saw.
    — If i did it again i would have the trainer on the TAFe network and not wireless.

    cheers,

    Neal

    Hi Neal, thanks for your comments. Yes, it’s interesting to use Connect outside the TAFE network isn’t it? We need better bandwidth!!!
